My Top 5 Sustainable Swaps (That I Actually Use Daily)

When I first started leaning into a sustainable lifestyle, I thought it meant I had to completely flip my routine upside down. But what I’ve found is that the real magic happens in the small, everyday choices. The sustainable swaps that have actually stuck for me are the ones that make my life easier—not harder. So here are my top five that I genuinely use all the time.

First up, the Astrik Mixing Bowls. I’m seriously obsessed with these. I use them every single day, whether I’m prepping a quick salad, tossing tofu in buffalo sauce, or mixing up a new snack I found on TikTok. The nesting design is clutch—space is tight in my kitchen, and these bowls stack perfectly without taking over my cabinets. Plus, the silicone lids make saving leftovers so simple. The best part? They’re made from plant-based plastic using our sustainable Astrik material, which is super durable and eco-friendly. I love that I can just throw them in the dishwasher and move on. Honestly, these bowls feel like a little kitchen luxury that just so happens to be good for the planet.

Speaking of everyday essentials, I cannot live without my Astrik Measuring Duo. I love these because the long-handled measuring spoons actually fit into those narrow spice jars (finally!) and the tiny measuring bowls are not only adorable but are perfect for prepping all the ingredients when a recipe tells you to add things in a specific order. They nest too, which makes storage a breeze. They even fit nice and neatly into the nesting bowls! Plus, like their counterpart the mixing bowls, they’re made from the plant-based plastic, Astrik. They make me feel like I’ve got my life together—even when I’m winging dinner at the last minute. Another easy sustainable swap that fits right into my eco-friendly routine.

And then there are the Astrik Prep N Serve Cups—probably the most underrated pieces I use. The Prep N Serve Set itself is a workhorse, perfect for a family taco night or desert bar, but these little square bowls pop up all over my house. I use them for prepping garlic, holding dipping sauces, corralling my jewelry while I clean, even organizing tiny craft supplies. They nest beautifully, save space, and you guessed it! Just like the rest of the Astrik collection, they’re made from plant-based plastic!

I’ve also gotten into the habit of saving glass jars—like from salsa, pasta sauce, salad dressing, or even fancy jams. Once they’re cleaned out and labels removed (or left on for charm, no judgment), they’re perfect for storing dry goods like rice, nuts, or loose-leaf tea. I’ve even used them for homemade dressings or bringing overnight oats to work. It’s one of the easiest sustainable lifestyle habits to pick up—free, functional, and eco-friendly. Plus, it’s way more fun to reuse something that would have gone in the bin than buying more plastic containers.

For cleaning, I’ve officially broken up with paper towels thanks to Skoy Swedish Dishcloths. I used to think reusable cloths would get gross fast and just end up in the trash anyway. But I’ve used the same Skoy cloth to clean my camping grill, wipe down messy stove splatters, and tackle everyday kitchen messes—and it still looks great. No weird smells, no grossness. Just a soft, strong little tool I now can’t imagine living without. When it finally wears out, I can just toss it in the compost. It’s been one of the most satisfying sustainable swaps I’ve made, and it fits so easily into my eco-friendly lifestyle.

A Honorary mention: reusable tote bags. I’ve got them stashed everywhere—one in the car, one in my purse, a few by the door. They come with me to the farmers market, the grocery store, the post office, you name it. They’re strong, washable, and actually kind of cute, especially when they match my outfit (an easy feat when you only have three colors in your wardrobe). This was probably my very first sustainable swap, and it’s one I’ll never give up.

What I’ve learned is that sustainable living doesn’t have to feel complicated. It’s just about finding the little things that make your life smoother and happen to be eco-friendly too. Whether it’s nesting bowls, durable cleaning cloths, or plant-based kitchen tools, these swaps have become part of my everyday life—and honestly, I can’t imagine going back.
